Rosacea – What Can You Do?

It is estimated that there are 14 million people in the United States that suffer from the effects of rosacea, which is a skin condition common in women or men with fair-skin usually between the ages of 25 and 65. A typical sign of rosacea is patchy areas of red, tiny red bumps or the visibility of small blood vessels on the face.

Chemical free options for Rosacea

Rosehip + Hibiscus Face Serum

This serum contains a high organic content of rosehip seed oil which, for rosacea suffers, is known for strengthening broken and damaged capillaries by acting like an astringent to clean up and reduce redness. It has a high absorbing quality which allows it to penetrate skin effectively. It is naturally high in vitamin C and it is a great way of calming your skin.

During the 2005 Academy of Dermatology in the annual meeting, a study was conducted to test the effects of Rooibos Tea and Green Tea on rosacea.  It was proven that rooibos tea in skincare products was able to help those with rosacea. The study included 188 women, aged 20 to 55 years old, who all has symptoms of rosacea such as red bumps and visible blood vessels. A sample set of women used the a chemical free rooibos tea face cleanser twice daily, which other set of women used generic face cleansers. After 6 weeks of the trial, the women who washed with the chemical free rooibos tea face cleanser had experienced an 87% reduction in red bumps when compared to those using the store brand cleansers which contained chemicals. This is was the inspiration behind the Rooibos Tea Face Scrub. It is a great scrub, for those people with dry skin who are looking to cleanse their face without drying it out.

Green Tea Toxin Cleanser

We at Made from Earth have realized, however, that if your skin is ulta-sensitive and easily irritated, using any type of cleanser/scrub may not be a good solution. Furthermore, if your skin is excessively oily, a moisturizing scrub may not be the solution. This is where the Green Tea Toxin Cleanser can add alot of value. This is the most gentle cleanser on the market today. It is perfect for people with rosacea who do not want to further inflame their face since it is so sensitive, while at the same time detoxifying it of harmful oils. It can be used as a makeup remover or face wash, and is non-irritating, even when used around the eyes. It is soft and can be used daily.

It's been nearly a month since I started using the Green Tea Cleanser, and I know the page is kinda old- But reading through this page encouraged me to buy the product (shipping was more expensive than the product itself, so that wasn't fun), and I really wanted to write a detailed review after trying it out. (:

I've had rosy cheeks for as long as I remember, but it started getting redder and redder since about.. 4-5 years ago? Especially after sports! People would ask me with genuine concern if I was okay cause I would be lobster red, and that isn't veerry normal for my ethnicity. To add insult to injury, I started developing major acne and pimples! Soon after, my entire face started becoming red reeaally easily.. Usually when I didn't have enough sleep, felt nervous or even just slightly embarrassed, or when it got real hot.

So now I've got sensitive skin + acne + rosacea + oily/combination skin.

To be honest, I started using MFE's Green Tea Cleanser (daily, both day & night) the same day I started using the creams Differin & Clindamycin Lotion (prescribed by a dermatologist), so I don't really know what produced what results. But if I'm not wrong, Differin is for my acne and Clindamycin is a sort of.. antibiotic lotion? Writes "Topical treatment for Acne Vulgaris" on the bottle!

Both are pretty strong chemicals, in the sense that they do hurt my skin at times.

However, a month after, the redness in my face has definitely gone down! (: And I do think the Green Tea Cleanser brought down the redness, since the other two creams/lotions seem more for my acne.

The texture of the cleanser reminds me of a Cetaphil cleanser (I used to use this, then switched to SebaMed), in the sense that it doesn't feel soapy. However, I still felt "dirty"/"oily" after using Cetaphil, but my face felt real clean after using the Green Tea Cleanser, so that was a pleasant surprise. (: It's not a squeaky clean feeling like if you used a bar soap though! It's a clean that feels like the essential oils in your face is still in there. (:

So.. My cheeks are still rosy! But my face doesn't flare up as easily anymore. (: Hope this product continues to work for me.

Much love from Singapore! (:

these products are super cool. i have been suffering from rosacea for about 2 months ,i relly got scared because i have known many people suffering from it and i thought that i have to face the same problems but not now ,these products i purchased are very reliable and less pricey then others.

Thanks for the tip Rosa.... I will try only using the Rosehip Serum on just the dry spots

I loved the old formula. Just got the new and improved witj added vitamon c and it caused a rosacea eruption...is the old formula still available?

Hi Deborah,

The old formula is not available anymore, however, the new formula is quite similar.

The new formula is an IMPROVEMENT on the old formula - we just improved them and added additional vitamins like DMAE and MSM which are proven to calm skin. Now it absorbs better and has a nicer smell! You'll notice the ingredients are quite similar to the old formula.

You can see the changes here:

Kimberly - it sounds like you may be using too much of it!

When i first started using it - it did make my face a bit sticky - but it turns on I was putting on alot. A little goes a long way and I only use in areas where I have dry skin, as oppose to my entire face.

I have been using it for 3 months now. . .

I'm finding that the Rosehip Serum makes my face feel sticky..... maybe I'm using too much??

I too have suffered from rosacea for many years, and have tried many different products, to no avail. I even went as far as paying 200.00 per laser treatment with a plastic surgeon. My dermatologist was no help at all... He gave me lotions, creams and gels...nothing worked. I have tried just about every over the counter product you can imagine. My skin tends to be dry, not oily, and my main complaint is the redness. When my face really flares up, it looks terrible. I have rosacea on my checks, nose and forehead. Like some of you, I have even tried the very expensive products ( Clinique Redness Solutions )... that didn't work either. I then came across this "Made From Earth" web site and after reading the reviews, decided to give it a try. I ordered the Green Tea Toxin Cleanser, along with the Rosehip Face Serum. I received the order today, and just used it for the first time tonight. I'm hoping this will work for me. I'm hoping it takes the redness away, or at least lessens it.... Wish me luck everyone. I will keep you posted....:-)

Hi, Can I get this product in Australia?

To Rosa L:

I don't know if this would help, but as you said you have rosacea on the side of your face you sleep on, have you tried sleeping on your back - the sheet or the detergent its washed in might be irritating your skin.

Just ordered the rosehip serum and green tea cleanser. Can't wait to get the products. Very hopeful after reading all the reviews. Have had rosacea for 3 years and have tried many prescription creams and oral antibiotics that did not work at all and just made my skin worse. Will let you know how it works out.

How did it work, if you don't mind my asking?

Awesome, I do not want to get ahead of myself but I am sooooooooo glad and hopefull that there is soemthing I can do about my 3-year rosacea issue. I am going to try out the Rosehip & Hibicuss serum and see if it works for me. Like Olga, my pastules are also only on one side of the face, the right cheek only, and it is the side I sleep on too.
But I have one question, what do you guys recommend to wash with before applying the Rosehip& hibicuss serum?

thanks everyone!!!

I have rosacea and i do like the rosehip serum from this company. Has anyone tried the Vitamin Enhanced Moisturizer who has rosacea?? How does it affect your skin? please advise!

rosacea sufferer for about 3 years. The rosehip Serum from this company is what i love

good luck all!! there are solutions!

-Sarah

I've been using the Green Tea Cleanser and Rosehip serum for just a week and I have already noticed a huge improvement to my rosacea....I can't believe it! I've just ordered the Roobis Tea Detox scrub to try. I'm really hoping that over a few weeks my rosacea will be reduced significantly. I'll post again to update you on my results.

I have tried so many other products in the past and although they did not irritate my skin, they did not help my roscaea....these include clinique's red solutions, Medik8's red alert and the Avene range.

My skin is so sensitive and I react to most products so I'm really pleased that I've found a range which helps calm my skin and reduce redness.

I'd love to hear from anyone else who use theses products and how it's helping them, if they have any recommendations for application/frequency of use etc!

Sarah

You can use the Rosehip as a moisturizer if you have oily skin. If you have dry skin, the Rosehip Serum may not be hydrating enough. I myself have combination skin, and found that I do not need an additional moisturizer after using the Rosehip & Hibiscus Face serum. Ive been using it for 2 months now, and only once when it was very frosty out, I applied it twice because it absordbed into my skin and I needed another application.

But usually it just smoothes out and give my skin a little 'plump' look after just one application.

I have suffered from Rosacia for 2 years have tried everything and nothing helps. Im excited in trying Rosehip Serum and the Green Tea Cleanser. Rosehip does not work as a moisterizer? what moisterizer would anyone recommend to use?

I'm 31 and last summer I got Rosacea. My skin was so beautiful before. I read many articles and people say that Rosecea is caused by low acid levels in the stomach among many other things (i.e. stress or overgrowth of bad bacteria in the gut, etc). I had always had irregularity since I was a little kid.

I’m going to try the Green Tea cleanser. I will come back and report on my progress. I have also stopped eating meat and fried foods, but that didn’t help much. I still get the ugly red pimples. My pastules are only one one side of the face, the side I sleep on. Is that strange?

Hi Olga
Ive has rosacea for 3 years now and aroudn that time I also stopped eating meat, not because of the rosacea, but anyway, what really made a big difference for me was stopping all animal proteins, in other words, going vegan. Milk, cheese, eggs, etc. If youve already made the step to stopp eating meat, maybe u could try this as well and see if it works for you. My rosacea isnt gone but its helped alot against the swelling and pimples.
cheers
V

thank you for the tips

I will try the Green Tea Cleanser because any face wash I buy at CVS leaves my face red. Time to get healthy!

I used to use the Rooibos Face Scrub - but it made me breakout!! It is NOT for people with oily skin. I swticthed to the green tea cleanser and that worked alot better cause its like a good astringent and face wash.

I dont use the Rosehip Face Serum personally, because my skin is good just with the Green Tea Cleanser.

I have a very bad case of rosacea and have tried many products. I recently ordered the Rosehip and hibiscus serum and Green Tea Toxin cleanser. I really hope it will work for me. I also have very, very sensitive skin. Would love to hear how it has helped everyone. Thanks.

I have been using the above products for less than 2 weeks and I can already tell a difference with my rosacea. My face has calmed down tremendously. The Green Tea Toxin Cleanser feels wonderful on my face - it has a "cooling" effect. I have tried many products to no avail, but I can greatly recommend the Rosehip and Hibiscus Serum and the Green Tea Toxin Cleanser.

Does anyone know of a good sunscreen?

Why are you squeezing fresh lemon juice into the cleansers?

Thanks

The Rosehip Serum has definitely helped me get my rosacea under control. For me, it was all those harmful chemicals that irritated my skin and all those abrasive chemicals. No more!

Definitely try the rosehip. In terms of a moisturizer, I dont use another. Just the Rosehip because it is moisturizing enough. I try to limit what I put on my face now. I found that has helped also reduce the irritation. Rosehip is a staple in my routine.

I have suffer from rosacea couple year , I tried different product but is seemed not working for me. Now I hear GReen Tea Cleanser and Rosehip & Hibicus face serum is help for rosacea. I can't wait to try those.
Any one please tell me what kind of moisturize AM, PM can i use after apply Rosehip & Hibicuss serum.? Thank you very much!

Hello,

I have a light rosacea - which really only flares up in the winter. What do you all recommend?

-Tiffany

Tiffany - I did what Paula recommended below and that seemed to work best for me also. I bought lemons from the supermarket and squeezed 1 WHOLE LEMON into the Green Tea Toxin Cleanser and shook the bottle well.

Well - I used that for about a month and it worked great for the redness I had. I think most of it was being caused by the harshchemicals in other products. Plus it was nice to wash my face with fresh squeezed lemon and an organic green tea every morning!

Good luck - I hope it works for you too. From what I hear the rooibos face scrub should work too, but I have not tried it yet.

Why do you put fresh lemon juise in the cleanser? I have read that other people do it too?

Thanks

it is a natural disinfectent!! WORKED GREAT for me....i love the green tea!!!

I dont like the Rooibos Cleanser - it did nothing for my rosacea

but the Rosehip + HIbiscus Face Serum is a DREAM! after using it daily for 2 months, I have now stopped because I dont even see the rosacea complexion issues I once had.

I guess the rooibos didnt mix well with my skin, but it has worked for others. The Rosehip Serum however is a staple in my face routine.

-T

I have read from many Rosacea sufferers that this combination of products really works wonders. I'm going to give it a shot, can't wait to get the products and start using them...

I tried the Rooibos Tea Detox Cleanser and I used to have a Rosacea - but it took me about 2 months (8 weeks) of using the Rooibos Tea Detox with the rosehip serum before I started noticing the rosacea dimishing. I guess it depends on your skin type how long it takes to work - but Im glad at the end it did.

Now I usually just maintain with the Rosehip Serum and the Green Tea Cleanser.

I just used the Green Tea cleanser and that seemed to work for me. What I liked is I added FRESH SQUEEZED LEMON into the Green Tea Cleanser bottle for use when I am in the shower - and it just works perfectly!
